Current cooling technologies, such as air-conditioning and refrigeration, rely on human-made F-gases that are almost 10,000 times more potent than carbon dioxide in causing global warming. Cooling also uses huge amounts of energy, often fossil fuels, and is therefore a critical carbon emissions reduction challenge.

KNOWLEDGE & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

Technologies that we use to address climate change are known as climate technologies. Climate technologies that help us reduce GHGs include renewable energies such as wind energy, solar power and hydropower. To adapt to the adverse effects of climate change, we use climate technologies such as drought-resistant crops, early warning systems and sea walls. There are also ‘soft’ climate technologies, such as energy-efficient practices or training for using equipment.

To successfully reduce environmental emissions, companies need to expand the scope of their emissions accounting to include entire supply chains. A clustering approach has been used to find emission-intensive industry clusters. However, this approach did not include entire direct and indirect supply chains when forming high emission industry clusters. We propose a new method based on a modified normalized cut function with our’s input–output model and basic clustering algorithms to find industry clusters with high levels of embodied within-cluster emissions that are well separated in the supply chain network.

The Energy Audit Program (AE) raises performance standards in energy auditing in buildings and industry and improves the practice of energy auditors through the application of national and international methodologies for calculating energy performance with innovative equipment. AEC is a 3-month training program for professionals who want to be trained in energy audit services in buildings and industry. This program is based on the practice and methodology of the Italian Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA). It aims to train professionals in the specialization of energy diagnostics of buildings, specialization in a system of systematic surveys, collection and analysis of parameters related to specific consumption and conditions of exercise of the building and its plants. Through the participation of researchers and experts from Italy, specifically from ENEA, the courses confirm an international character and contribute to the opening of the Albanian reality compared to the Italian and European experiences. At the end of the training, the participants who are evaluated positively are provided with the certificate of the Energy Auditor in accordance with the legislation in force.

The Continuing Training Course of energy manager is a qualification program for Albanian professionals. This 2-month training course, which concludes with an exam, offers a good practice for professionals who want to be trained in energy management services in buildings and industry. It aims to train professionals in the specialization of energy diagnostics of buildings, specialization in a system of systematic surveys, collection and analysis of parameters related to specific consumption and exercise conditions of the building and its plants defined as technical-economic assessment of energy flows. Through the participation of researchers and experts from Italy, specifically from ENEA – Italian Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, the courses confirm an international character and contribute to the opening of the Albanian reality compared to Italian and European experiences. At the end of the course and taking the exam successfully, participants are provided with a certificate.
